Expert Recommendations

Optimal Performance Guidelines

Our recommendations to ensure the best LuniTax experience:

Network Setup

It is recommended to have a local network technician to ensure all computers are on the same network for LuniTax to function properly.

Printer/Scanner Recommendations

LuniTax is compatible with any HP-compatible printer. When considering a printer for your office, get one with the fastest print speed (pages per minute) your budget can afford. If printing checks for banking products, we recommend using a laser printer instead of an inkjet printer.

Scanners used with the PaperCut program must be fully TWAIN-compatible. Unfortunately, due to variations in scanner manufacturer design, the only way to know if a scanner is compatible with PaperCut is to test it with PaperCut.

Wireless Internet Connections

A wired connection is recommended instead of a wireless connection (Wi-Fi). Wi-Fi is more susceptible to service interruptions and speed fluctuations. These interruptions can cause problems when trying to transmit returns, receive acknowledgments, and/or get updates. For these reasons, LuniTax recommends a more reliable wired connection, DSL, or fiber optic.

Additionally, care should be taken to avoid public Wi-Fi networks. Your PC security can be compromised and to prevent this, some LuniTax features are limited on public Wi-Fi networks. When using Wi-Fi, in the Windows Wi-Fi settings, the network profile must be set to Private.

Cable/DSL/Fiber/Dial-up Connections

Cable, DSL, and fiber connections are faster and more reliable than most other types of internet connections. Other types of connections are slower or more subject to periodic connectivity losses. Due to the size of the LuniTax program installation and some of the updates, a dial-up connection is impractical. Anyone using a dial-up connection should be prepared for very long download times and frequent disconnections.

Satellite Internet Service

Satellite internet service is typically slower and more expensive than cable, DSL, or fiber, but it may be the only high-speed option available in some rural areas, so it should mainly be considered when there is no other form of high-speed internet service available.
